Sweet Tooth in Spain!

April 1, 2010

Posted by Jay El-Kaake

  • WDCA will be attending the Magento developer conference in Mallorca, Spain in April. It'll either be Jay, Scott, or both of us. We'll be discussing potential new features of Sweet Tooth, talking to other developers about integration and partnership possibilities. We will also be discussing some of the unannounced new extensions we've been working on, free (community) and commercial.

We have had installer issues so I'm looking forward to also hearing from Magento's CTO what their plans are regarding the new Magento Connect (2.0?).

Also, we'll be spending a lot of time on the beach and recovering from a long Canadian winter!

Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.5 Released

March 29, 2010

Posted by admin

  • We recently released Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.5 which basically contains a bunch of bug fixes. Of specific note however for this release, is we are now fully supporting the Magento One Step Checkout extension found on Magento connect, but you have to follow some setup steps to get it to work properly. Their CTO Jone has been very helpful in getting things setup and I recommend taking a look at their extension for your Magento store if you haven't already!

Shopping Cart Points Redemption Slider with TAX and filter

March 28, 2010

Posted by admin

  • One of the active users pointed out an issue with the way that the cart filters were working so we spent time to fix the issue and create a video to illustrate the neat usage of Sweet Tooth's custom rule creation system. Here's how it's setup:

Customers can redeem as many points as they want (or how much they have) on the shopping cart but only on specific products. This is done by using the "Apply the rule only to cart items matching the following conditions" section filter in the "actions" tab on the Shopping Cart Points Redemption rule edit page.

You can also do this with catalog points redemption rules as well and even merge both types of rules together to create some interesting combinations. Neat, huh?

Here's a video where I set-up a shopping cart redemption rule and associated filters with tax enabled:

Less Frequent Sandbox Refreshing + Updates

March 26, 2010

Posted by admin

  • It has come to my attention that many people use the Sweet Tooth Sandbox even after they have obtained Sweet Tooth for their store. I suppose these people are using it to compare how Sweet Tooth looks and works on a clean Magento installation versus their own store design and format.

To accommodate those people I have changed the sandbox so that it refreshes it's data every Saturday at 12AM instead of every day at 12AM. That should make testing a lot easier.

Also, the sandbox did not have any of the integration guide components set-up, which was originally done on purpose for people so it can represent a truly fresh Magento installation. Since most people get confused by this, I went ahead and set the templates/layouts/theme to default_sweet_tooth instead of default so that the integrated components (like the shopping cart slider) show up.

Significant speed improvements to be released in 1.3.0.2

March 11, 2010

Posted by admin

  • This Tuesday we will be releasing Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.2 which will feature a new caching mechanism that will reduce the required rewards information load time for listing pages of 2 seconds per 30 products down to 0.08 seconds in our test. That's a big speed boost! It will also reduce the load time on the product info pages by about half a second, and in many other places as well where points are predicted.

You must have caching enabled to see this effect. In addition to adding caching functionality, we also reduced the load time required for the rewards data in the listing page by about 50%. Not bad!

Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.2 will be released on or before Tuesday, March 16 and it will also address some issues reported by the fine Magento community members.

UPDATE: We've delayed the release by 24 hours. Sorry folks!

Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.1 Released

March 4, 2010

Posted by admin

  • We just launched Sweet Tooth 1.3.0.1 which addresses some of the high-priority issues that were found in Magento 1.4 and Sweet Tooth 1.3. Here's the full change log.

We also changed the "new points transfer" page for administrators to make it much easier to work with. We removed the "points currency" selector since there is currently no need for it, and we added some default values to make the transfer creation process much quicker.
