SaleAxis Launching a "Sweet" Website

November 30, 2011

Posted by Steve Deckert

  • One of our newest clients, SaleAxis, is launching their great new eCommerce website tomorrow that will offer great prices on just about everything - from iPads to musical instruments and more. We're not joking here, check out their store, they sell just about everything!

Not only is SaleAxis offering a wide array of competitively priced products, but they're also offering 24 hour support and - you guessed it - a customer loyalty program!

And if that isn't enough, check out their blog; we really loved their unique post on Black Friday/Monday. Give them a shout on Twitter and Like them on Facebook,; they'll always respond to your requests (they really do listen to customers, it's even part of their business model).

Congrats on the new site SaleAxis!

Base is New Zealand's Premier Snowboard & Ski Shop

November 23, 2011

Posted by Steve Deckert

  • Base is New Zealand's go-to shop for anything you need to hit the slopes in style. With a cool selection of boards, skis, clothing and more, they've got you covered both instore and online. Not only does Base have a wide selection of snowboarding and skiing equipment, they also make some great "how-to" videos for their customers to assist with purchasing, setting up, and maintaining their skis and boards.

Base has been using Sweet Tooth on Magento for a few years now to replicate their instore rewards scheme. Base's Matt McPhee explains their reasoning to use a loyalty program: "giving rewards to customers really helps turn them into repeat customers as they have a good reason to check in with you for any future purchases."

Base also uses Sweet Tooth to differentiate itself from competitors. Using Sweet Tooth's loyalty module, they were able to sell their products at full price yet still be able to compete (and win) against other online retailers who only offer heavy price discounts.

When asked about their favourite aspect of Sweet Tooth, Matt McPhee had this to say:

"Favorite thing about Sweet Tooth has probably been the support from WDCA [Sweet Tooth], always super helpful and really just a get it done attitude."

Base has a great looking website, with a clean look and product display. Find them on Twitter, Facebook & Youtube. Check them out!

Mike & Steve's Meet Magento UK '11 Presentation: Building Cross-Channel Customer Loyalty

November 21, 2011

Posted by Steve Deckert

  • Last month, Sweet Tooth's Mike Rossi & Steve Deckert spoke at Meet Magento UK 2011 on the topic Building Cross-Channel Customer Loyalty.

First off, we'd like to say thank you to Magento for putting this event on, all the people that attended and sponsored the event, and the people of the UK for being such gracious hosts!

The event was not only successful, but was a blast. The venue, the Queen Elizabeth II conference center, had an aura of positivity and a sense of community that seems to be unique to Magento. There were so many great presentations, and we were happy to be among the other presenters.

Here's a full video of our presentation on customer loyalty best practices, customer satisfaction metrics, and cross-channel implications for commerce and customer loyalty.

How the New Top Level Domains will Affect e-Commerce

November 16, 2011

Posted by Steve Deckert

  • The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) plans to release new, custom top level domains (the part that comes after the "dot"  in your .com, .org, etc). The implications of this are widespread; a brand can have their own custom domain (such as .sweettooth), an idea or movement (such as .eco), a region (such as .london)...there are too many uses to count!

For eCommerce merchants, this means that your shoe store could be hosted on .shoes, or .buy. It will be interesting to see how the eCommerce industry will change when these new domains begin to roll out. Some are excited about this new change, while others aren't, and some are opposing it outright.

Thinking of grabbing yourself a Top-Level Domain? They only cost $185,000! Worried about someone grabbing a domain you want? Once the application process has closed, application results will be publicly made available here.

Here's a video from ICANN that details the new domains:

The Tri Shop Increases Sign Up Percentage in a Unique Way!

November 11, 2011

Posted by Steve Deckert

  • This week's Sweet Tooth Merchant Spotlight is The Tri Shop.

A one-stop shop for all your Triathalon needs, The Tri Shop provides shoes, wetsuits and even double rewards on electronics to its customers, to name a few. To educate its customers on how to use The Tri Shop Rewards, there is a dedicated rewards page.

Owner Scott Parr was able to significantly increased his sign up percentage at checkout by using a custom-modified checkout page. This page emphasizes that customers will not earn points if they don't sign up. See below for a screenshot of how they have set this up. What a really ingenious and unique use of Sweet Tooth to boost sign ups!

Check them out to see how they've used rewards to engage their customers, they have a really cool program!
